Brain injuries dramatically impact both an individual and their family. Whether it’s for the short term or for a lifetime, a brain injury changes our lives in both visible and invisible ways. Signs often include emotional, behavioral, physical, cognitive and social dysfunction. Even those who get the best medical care and therapy after an incident are often confused and frustrated about how to create strategies to do more than just survive.
In 2008 a group of survivors, family, caregivers, and medical professionals came together because we realized there are fundamental services missing from the traditional and accepted protocol of treating those with brain injury. We wanted to take control of our treatments, our recovery and our lives.
It is our belief that we know best.
Through our peer mentoring programs and services, educational opportunities, information and resources, we’ve been putting the power in empowerment for the superheroes of the brain injury community and their families for eight years strong.
This year, on Tuesday, November 29, 2016, BEST is participating in #GivingTuesday, a global day dedicated to giving. We are seeking to raise $5k to help bolster, refine and develop our empowerment, peer support, coaching and mentoring educational programs to give people the tools and support to live the BEST lives possible.
Not only do we cordially invite you to join this important movement and to peruse our website to learn more, we’d love to have you meet some folks who have participated in our programs and services. If you click here, you will find a selection of powerful personal stories from people of all ages and backgrounds who have discovered their empowered selves. Prepare to be inspired! (We sure were and continue to be).
