As our #5forsuperheroes giving campaign kicks off this week, we wanted to share with you one of the most important programs that supports our BEST superheroes and their families.
We are so fortunate to have many BEST friends. In fact, we’d like to introduce you to some of our very BEST friends in the virtual world! These are real-life people in the real-life world that participate and enjoy some great and unique online opportunities. (Check out their “virtual” high-fives)!
BEST has created a virtual presence for reaching out to those with brain injury and their caregivers. BEST hosts a variety of social events, small group discussions, workshops and skills trainings.  Known as Second Life, our goal  is to support those with brain injury to engage in alternative and meaningful learning and PEER support. Our office can be found on Etopia Island in Second Life.
Studies show that many of those with physical and cognitive challenges have an increased sense of self-worth, belonging and improved quality of life through the many experiences they have in Second Life and are better able to adjust to changing real life circumstances.
Second Life is a virtual experience where all things are possible. It offers us the chance to engage in things individuals with physical and cognitive challenges might not otherwise have the opportunity to enjoy; live music, long walks on the beach, bike rides, shopping malls, sailing, dancing and more.
And this is just a taste of what Etopia Island is like.
Interested in exploring how Second Life works? Great! All are warmly welcomed and encouraged to participate. It’s easy to get started. First, click here to read more about Second Life. You’ll find a link at the bottom of  that page that shows you how to get started.  You needn’t be a computer whiz kid to come and enjoy Second Life. This virtual world is designed to be easy, intuitive and user friendly.
Join us, won’t us?
And many thanks for your contributions to #5forsuperheroes to support programs like these! We appreciate your support.
