Earlier this summer, we  announced that a special program was coming to BEST this fall. The program was developed by one of our BEST friends and colleagues, Rochelle Gordon.  Gordon’s program, called the “Flip IT Workshops,” consist of three sets of four week classes to help people with gratitude, self-awareness, communication skills and so much more.

Participants begin with the “Flip It to Thankfulness” workshop, where they learn to identify and articulate needs, thoughts, feelings and connection with others through gratitude in the first workshop. The second workshop explores identity and destiny and the final workshop coaches participants in expression.

in the meantime, we have a treat for you! We had the opportunity to sit down with Gordon for a mini-interview about Flip IT. Read on.

BEST: What is the most common problem your Flip IT participants bring to your attention?

Gordon: I believe most people want to be happier themselves and have more positive communication with other people.  It is easy to be living or working together and still not really feel cared about or connected.
BEST: Where do people seem to have the most trouble?
Gordon: A lot of people are frustrated trying to keep up with the expectations with work and with family relationships. They are not experiencing the fulfillment and connection they need.  When they go to communicate, it often turns into a negative, ineffective interaction that can lead instead to a painful spiral of blame, criticism and guilt.  People don’t feel appreciated and there is an increasing negativity in the relationship.
BEST: Why do you think this is?
Gordon: I think we don’t take time for communication or we never learned how to have a happy, respectful relationship in the first place.
BEST: What is the best Flip IT strategy to solve it?
Gordon: Flip IT gives you tools from day one to instantly change your attitude.  You start off with your own attitude of gratitude.  The lessons build to reinforce your own great attitude and then you are ready to Flip IT to connection with another person.  Then when you have the “Positive Spiral,” you will have a lesson on conflict resolution.  It is short and sweet.  Your whole relationship can be positive with brief moments of conflict resolution.  Our secret weapon – learning to identify and express your heart needs.  I love seeing this moment happen when one person is able to express a need and the other person really gets it and it makes a difference in their relationship.  A powerful connection is created when that person feels heard and cared for by their loved one.
