caregiving-during-the-holidays

Well, we’ve officially kicked off the month of December and this Tuesday is perfect timing for our caregiver tips column.

Every Tuesday throughout the holiday season, the Brain Energy Support Team (BEST) will bring you two tips each Tuesday. As always, we welcome any of your thoughts, tips, strategies and feedback.

So without further ado, here are the two tips (adapted from “Stress and the Holidays: Coping Strategies to Keep You Sane” by Helen Hunter, ACSW, CMSW).

1. Be gentle to yourself, especially if you have recently lost a loved one. If you do not feel like celebrating, don’t! If you do wish to celebrate, keep it simple. Remember the TRUE reason that we celebrate the holidays!

2. The important point to remember here is that if the old traditions cause heartbreak and depression, change the tradition–start a new one!
